The Air Catchers

Short feature, 9.52min 2007

Written and Directed by Barbara Parise-Browton

The Air Catchers

This is a wry look at environmental issues and a playful story about the commercialisation of fresh air. Shot entirely in Hastings and St Leonard's-on Sea, using local talent and self funded. The idea is based on Dadaism and Marcel Duchamp selling of fresh air in Paris during the 1920s.

Ben Browton then made a comment about selling air in the +PLUSH+ shop in case nothing else happened... so Barbara from there...started to mature the idea for the short and created the characters, the premises and thought about the location and the style of the film.

She then came out with the idea of the FRESH AIR DETECTOR and commissioned Ben the artistic director of Plush Productions to create it and engineer it.

It took Ben over a month to come up with the machine with staggering results. He used recycling materials from around the area. The style of the film is very Jacques Tati meets Tim Burton's, it is suitable for children and for adults.

The Air Catchers preview took place at the Hastings Arts Forum on July 28th, it was well received and subsequently was shown as part of the SHOT BY THE SEA film festival in Hastings in August and Coastal Currents in September. The short features on several international festivals programmes and calendars including Sundance, Bristol, London etc.

The Air Catchers has found on-line distribution.
